Hummingbird Family

The Hummingbird provides a family of tough rack mountable Data Acquisition (DAQ) Front-Ends in 16 / 24 / 32 channel versions with built in Signal Conditioning options.

All Hummingbird units include HGL’s standard interface connections presented on the Hardware Overview page. This means that all Hummingbirds units can connect with and operate with any other HGL Modular Front-Ends.

Hummingbird is presented in 2U / 3U and 3.5U Milled Aluminium Hard Anodised Chassis and are ideal for harsh Environmental locations including on Vehicle applications. All Hummingbird units are supported fully by HGL’s Data Acquisition Software.

Features

16 / 24 / 32 Channels

Hummingbird Front Ends are provided with 16 / 24 / 32 channels in the standard 2U and 3.5U chassis

8 - 64 Channels

The Modular Hummingbird 4U chassis allows up to 8 DAQ modules to be fitted to provide channel counts up to 64 channels in a single chassis

Multiple Conditioning Types

Depending on Signal Conditioning option(s) chosen, Hummingbird can support Voltage, IEPE, Bridge (all types), Dynamic Strain, SE & DF Charge (including High Temperature sensors), 4-20mA, RTD (PRT) and TC on each channel.

Multiple Synchronizing Types

Hummingbird natively supports IRIG A/B, IEEE-1588 (PTPv2) and HGL LVDS for precise synchronisation to < 50nS resolution across entire systems. GPS is optionally available.

Simultaneous Sampling

Hummingbird supports individual Sigma-Delta ADCs per channel synchronized to better than 10ns across all channels in the unit.

Flexible Sample Rates

Hummingbird allows sample rates from 1kHz to 256kHz (in 1Hz steps) to be chosen for each block of 8 channels. Due to careful design the majority of these sample rates are precise.

140dB Dynamic Range

Hummingbird utilises instrumentation grade Sigma-Delta 24-bit ADCs across the range. These provide up to 140dB Dynamic Range and with oversampling rates to 1024x provide superb anti-alias capabilities.

Flexible Power

All Hummingbird models support DC power from 9 to 36V (automotive ranges) and PoE to 802.3bt (100W) standard.
AC power supplies are supported through a range of external adaptors

Environmentally Sealed

Hummingbird has been designed to be used in environmentally challenging environments and all models have no exterior openings and are sealed to IP65 (min) standard against fluids including jet fuels, lubricants etc.

Rugged

In addition to the environmental sealing, the Hummingbird range are intended for use in harsh vibration environments in test cells close to test vehicles and even on test vehicles.

Conduction Cooled

All Hummingbird models are conduction cooled through innovative internal design and materials.
All models are able to operate accurately from -55 to +80C.

Flexible and Scalable

Every HGL DAQ module is fully interoperable with other DAQ modules and this includes Hummingbird. Connection of multiple units is simple and quick and allows complex systems up to and above 1000 channels to be realised easily

Hummingbird Models

Hummingbird is available in a range of models and signal conditioning options. The most popular units provide the same conditioning for all channels, but HGL Dynamics can provide mixed conditioning models on request.

The table below indicates the Signal Conditioning types in the first column and the types of conditioning supported by that type.
