7 September 2006: First engine run on next generation acquisition software
At the test site in northern France where HGL is supplying the first of several dynamic acquisition systems, the commissioning engine has run today, meeting the customer's schedule. The acquired data sets were transferred automatically from level 1 storage within the test cell to level 2 online storage within a centralised data management system, and then on to level 3 tape backup, all without user intervention.
This test is a key milestone for HGL's next-generation digital dynamics technology, following many months of effort in taking our existing software product range on to a new level of performance and reliability.
15 August 2006: 128-channel real-time acquisition and analysis system installed in test cell
In April of this year HGL was awarded a contract to supply a dynamic acquisition system for a test cell situated in northern France. This system, delivered in June, has now been transferred from its original delivery area to the test cell for final installation and commissioning.
This system, linked to a centralised online storage and archiving system through fibre-optic networks, provides customers with rapid access to acquired data through sophisticated real-time monitoring displays. Additionally, the acquired data may be replayed in the original test cell, or in any other test cell fitted with the same system.
20 July 2006: Osprey and Eagle systems in heavy use
Earlier this year, HGL unveiled its new line of smaller, more portable, data acquisition systems aimed at field tests where lower channel counts are involved. These units have now been used on several tests both in Europe and the USA.
Combining the simplicity of an instrument with the flexibility of a portable computer, the Eagle is a self-contained 32-channel acquisition system. It can be operated either as a headless unit connected to a laptop via Ethernet or as a standalone system.
The Osprey is a 32-channel expansion system for laptop computers. Connected to the laptop via through a PC card slot, this small unit sits underneath or alongside your existing laptop and provides either a large RAID disk or an AIT-3 tape drive for additional storage capacity.
Either of these systems can be used to acquire data from extended periods of testing at remote sites. The acquired data sets are then easily transferred into the same database architecture as our larger test cell systems for analysis and long-term storage.
15 June 2006: HGL expands to new premises - again!
Less than two years after expanding into our current premises, HGL is moving again. After higher than expected growth over the last two years, the company has already outgrown the site to which we moved in July 2004. The new facility is next door to our current office, which means that our contact details are almost unchanged.
The new facility, occupying three floors of a fully-refurbished modern office, offers greatly increased floor space for both software development and test equipment. Over the next month, HGL will gradually be moving into the new facility whilst maintaining a presence in the old facility, in an effort to maintain continuity of service to our customers.
