The VibroMet™ 500V Laser Doppler Vibrometer is a compact, competitively priced, and easy-to-use precision instrument for non-destructive testing and non-contact vibration measurement of any surface.
The VibroMet 500V is optimized for measurement distances from one centimetre to five meters. It uses a collimated laser which requires no focusing adjustments, lens accessories, or surface treatment, and ensures the highest level of measurement accuracy in all circumstances.

The VibroMet 500V is based on a patented electro-optical configuration developed by MetroLaser. The system consists of a remote laser sensor head and an electronic controller.
The remote laser sensor head includes an infrared laser diode for measurement, a red laser diode for aiming, an acousto-optic modulator and a high sensitivity photo-detector.
The electronic controller has both a demodulated velocity output and a 10.7 MHz frequency modulated signal output. The front of the controller has a signal strength indicator, two selectable velocity ranges and an array of low pass filter options.
The VibroMet™ 500V Laser Doppler Vibrometer measures the velocity and frequency of vibration of a single fixed point on a structure of interest. The output of the VibroMet™ 500V is a single analogue channel representing the measured velocity. This signal can be input into any standard analogue acquisition system (such as any HGL Dynamics system) for direct measurement with other analogue signals, or can be measured separately with standard HGL Dynamics laser vibration software.
Benefits
- Non-contact measurements without mass loading
- High temperature measurements
- Vibration measurement on rotating parts
- Easy-to-use Point & Measure Operation
- Ultra high sensitivity
Both displacement and acceleration can also be measured. These parameters can be obtained in the software by direct integration and derivation of the velocity.
The VibroMet 500V is ideal for measuring vibration on reflective surfaces; for less reflective / "hard to see" surfaces, it is easy to increase the reflectivity of the surface with white or retro-reflective paint or paper.
